Virtual QUOM: Express Yourself!

Settler colonizers that arrived to North America in the 1500s brought disease, conflict and famine to Indigenous nations. They also brought their cultural ideologies of the gender binary and white supremacy. The gender binary is the belief that all people can be categorized strictly as either man or woman. White supremacy is the normalized belief that whiteness is superior and the baseline for what is considered to be ‘human’. These ideologies remain today in our institutions and in our interpersonal interactions to police and control the ways we relate to gender, expression and our communities. Due to the ways these ideologies converge, being racialized AND queer and/or trans is directly resisting white gendered ideology. We wish to provide a space to gather to share the ways that gender presentation and expression can bring us joy! We have prioritized compensating QTBIPOC contributors and have selected Roots & Wings Kingston for our organization to donate to again this year.
