Jory Bolton

Background:

Hello! My name is Jory Bolton. I graduated with a B.Ed (Primary-Junior) from Queen's University in 2016 with a concentration in international education.

What they did with their degree:

While at Queen's, I attended the Teachers' Overseas Recruiting Fair (TORF, which I highly recommend!) and secured a job at the American School of Kuwait. I now work at the International School of Aberdeen and I am pursuing my PME in Assessment & Evaluation at Queen's.

Piece of Advice:

Advice #1: Take care of yourself. You can't be at your best in the classroom if you're not at your best overall.

Advice #2: Take a chance. Before my current job, I had only ever taught in the Junior division. I was then offered a job teaching Grade 1. Though I was nervous and didn't know what to expect, I decided to give it a chance. Guess what? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE teaching this age group and I can't imagine leaving the Primary division as it is such a good fit for me!

Advice #3: Be a lifelong learner. Since graduating in 2016, I have completed my Post-Grad Certificate in Reading & Literacy and my Primary-Junior Mathematics Specialist Qualification, became an IB-certified educator for the Primary Years, and I have started my PME. I've also learned so much from my colleagues and leadership teams. All of these have made me into a stronger and more confident educator, and I look forward to continuing my learning and growing in years to come.
