Community Affairs Commissioners

Philip Lloyd & Isabella Bei

The Community Affairs Commissioners are two students who are responsible for creating awareness and involvement within our faculty for all on and off campus initiatives for charity and community building projects. Some of the work  includes hosting the annual Con-Ed charity pancake breakfast, organizing and facilitating the Tree of Life initiative and heading the Volunteer Initiative Committee.

External Affairs Commissioners

Tracy Wong & Melissa Sit

The External Affairs Commissioners exist under the Vice President External’s umbrella and are involved with relations involving B.Ed Alumni and in administering the Concurrent Education Bursary Program.  The External Affairs Commissioners and the CESA Executive, on behalf of CESA, may attend a Homecoming Weekend dinner in which they associate with Education alumni, providing an opportunity to network and publicize the Concurrent Education Program to faculty and alumni. However, their greatest responsibility lies in the management of the Bursary Program, and subsequent distribution of bursary awards.  The roles of the External Affairs Commissioners are to make available, advertise, evaluate and revise if necessary, bursary application forms in collaboration with the Treasurer and Vice-President External. They must fulfill these responsibilities while maintaining the confidentiality of applicants.

Workshop Coordinators

Christiana Mergianian & Noelyn Selvanayagam

Workshops offer all students opportunities to engage with each other, faculty, staff and professionals to establish and build on a love for and commitment to education and professional development.  Past workshops have included portfolio development, outdoor education, special education, classroom management and experience abroad, all with the objective of promoting discussion, interactive learning and networking.  Workshops Coordinators are always open to suggestions to ensure that each workshop represents the interests and concerns of our diverse group of students.

Conference Chair

Jennifer Moore

The Queen’s Conference on Education (QCE) is an annual professional development event that brings together students from several Ontario universities to explore issues related to teaching and education. Through keynote addresses, workshops and social events, QCE provides students who are interested in pursuing a career in education with the opportunity expand their knowledge and expertise, and forge new relationships with other aspiring educators.  The Conference Chair is responsible for planning and hosting QCE in coordination with the Conference Executive.

Conference Communications

Holly Jepson

Conference Communications is responsible for communicating with potential corporate and local sponsors. As QCE continues to expand, it is crucial that there are enough funds to support its growth. We are especially excited to offer both sponsorship and donor-ship partnerships for the first time this year. Conference Communications also collaborates with the Fundraisers and supports other members of the Conference Executive to ensure that QCE is a successful weekend!

Conference Finance

The Conference Finance position is not one to be overlooked as it plays an important role in ensuring that Queen’s Conference on Education runs smoothly. Conference Finance is responsible for creating a budget to ensure the financial sustainability of the Conference. During the planning period and throughout the year, Finance keeps track of all the Conference spending ensuring that the Conference Executive stays within the budget, making adjustments as needed. In addition to the basic jobs of financing, Finance also lends support to the rest of the Conference Executive when required.

Conference Logistics

Jennifer Parker

One of the main goals of the Queen’s Conference on Education is to expand the knowledge of future teachers, and to give them tools that they can use when they begin their careers. Conference Logistics works to find and create workshops that will not only be informative, but fun and interesting as well. This position also works with the Chair and other members of the Conference Executive to find inspirational and humorous keynote speakers to present throughout the weekend.  Most importantly, they offer their support to the entire Executive team.

Conference Promotions

Laura Hughes

Conference Promotions is responsible for advertising QCE to the Con-Ed and Queen’s community as well as soliciting participants from other Ontario universities. Conference Promotion liaises with the appropriate student leaders and student associations to ensure maximum exposure of Conference within Queen’s and other Ontario universities. Promotions also designs and maintains the website. Promotions is the position responsible for organizing the social events for delegates and supports the other members of the Executive when needed.

Head Teach

Rachel Shindman

Frosh Week is an important time for all Con-Eddies, and the job of the Head Teach is to make sure that everything runs smoothly. With the help of the other members of Teach Exec (Financial, Academics, and Social) the Head Teach plans and runs the activities in Frosh Week. Some responsibilities include going to ORT meetings, sitting as a member of CESA Council, organizing Teach interviews, and planning Frosh Week. It’s an amazing opportunity to make sure that the incoming Frosh have the best welcome to the Con-Ed family as possible!
